Dietary β-carotene is recognised as the major precursor of vitamin A.

Dairy cows are often deficient in Vitamin A before and after calving.
This occurs because cows supply a high level of vitamin A to their calf in colostrum.

Poor conception rates

High-yielding cows are more often difficult to spot because of a lack of visible bulling activity (silent heats) which can also be very short. Work over a two-year period has confirmed the positive influence of Biocell βC on improving conception rates.

The synergistic impact of feeding β-carotene in combination with pure live yeast to enhance rumen function helps to maintain condition.

Health benefits

Ovarian cysts: β-carotene plays an important role in corpus lutea function, and reducing the incidence of ovarian cysts.

Mastitis:

Because vitamin A is closely related to immunity and disease prevention, the reduction in the cow’s blood levels of vitamin A greatly increases her risk of disease after calving.

The vast majority of mastitis cases occur soon after calving. The average time after calving to mastitis diagnosis is two days, and cows that have a low blood vitamin A have a 60% greater risk of mastitis.
This means that the cows with high blood levels of vitamin A have a much lower chance of developing mastitis than cows with low blood vitamin A levels. Cows that develop mastitis within 30 days of calving have, on average, a much lower level of vitamin A in their blood.

How to use Biocell βC/Se:

  • Biocell βC/Se is easily mixed in TMR or can be top-dressed.
  • Individual daily feed-rate: Dairy Cows – 25g per head per day

Biocell βC/Se can be introduced at any time, but for maximum benefit, should be added to the transition diet at least three weeks pre-calving, to increase dry matter intake and improve rumen function.
